Following its introduction on the VBP 3100 Series machines, Kuhn’s twin-reel film binding system is now available for the first time on its variable chamber baler-wrappers.
The two-model range is made up of the VBP 3165 and the VBP 3195. Both produce a 120cm wide bale, with a minimum diameter of 80cm, with the former producing a maximum diameter of 160cm and the later up to 185cm.
Already used on its fixed chamber baler-wrappers, including FBP and i-BIO ranges, the system uses two regular 750mm stretch-film rolls. Rather than using a full width film binding system, the manufacturer says its twin roll concept enables customers to benefit from a lower film purchase price and to use a much higher pre-stretch ratio.
Moreover, it says the binding cycle is faster, with reduced waste from long wrap tails, reducing the film binding costs by up to 37 per cent.
The manufacturer says the advantages of film binding include better forage quality, improved feeding efficiency and easier waste management, as net does not have to be split from wrap, as well as the need for just one film type, with regular stretch-film rolls being lighter and easier to handle.
In addition, film and net binding are two separate systems on its baler-wrappers, enabling the operator to carry both film and net at the same time, allowing contractors to cater for the customers’ demands.
The VBP 3100 Series variable chamber baler-wrapper combinations use the manufacturer’s Progressive Density baling chamber which uses two chamber rollers, a starter roller and five endless baling belts. Belt tension increases as the bale grows and can be adjusted from the tractor cab, to compensate for variations in crop type and quality and to maintain a constant density as the bale is formed.
The manufacturer says the Progressive Density system is key to its combi-balers, having the versatility to bale and wrap a range of wet and dry crops; from hay and straw (five to 20 per cent moisture), to haylage (18 to 35 per cent moisture) and silage (35 to 80 per cent moisture).
